8A Solving The Problem

The service that I found is a watersports shop. It is called Watersports West and it allows you to demo a board and bindings of your choice to see if you like it before purchasing them. This allows for experienced and non-experienced riders the chance to try out different combinations to see which one they like better. This process will save the customers money because they will not buy the wrong product. With the rental, you put down a deposit to take the supplies out of the store but if you don’t like it and give it back you get your money back. However, if you buy the product the money that you put as the deposit will just go towards your purchase. The demo day program there is great for the riders to experience their new tastes and preferences for each pair of boots and boards. They will get the combination that they want in the end.

  1. Hey Will,
I have to say I really love this idea of renting out the products first in order to feel more confident in your choice. In addition, the idea of a down payment the is either refundable or transferable if fantastic. This makes total sense and I could see where this would thrive in other markets where the cost of the product is quite expensive. My Fiancé plays flute and the while she was looking to purchase a higher-end model the company allowed her to try three at once with a similar demo scenario.
    Thanks, Zach L.

  2. Hey Will. I think being able to try out a product before you commit money to buying is is something that should happen with all fairly major purchases. Similar to how you can test drive a car, I think your idea is great for customers who want to know what their buying. The only thing that I would think could be a problem, is if the customers somehow damage the rented product, but you could avoid that with a short term rental insurance policy. I like to play video games, and most new big title games cost 60 dollars. While this might not be as much of an investment, the idea of trying a game before paying for it is something that, while it may be bay for business, is better for the customer. Great idea.
